"Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10-11 - I believe that both my skills and my desire to serve others are God given gifts, I further believe that gifts are best enjoyed when shared with others. If I couldn't share my painting skills with others I'd never pick-up another paint brush and then what good would the gift be?
"Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people." Colossians 3:23 - Passion is why we do what we do. Fishermen don't fish because they enjoy standing in freezing cold water, they do it for the passion of the challenge of matching wits with the "big one" the one that has gotten away. As stated above - my skills are a gift, as are my passions, so I do what I do from my heart where passion lives.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves." Philippians 2:3 - Although some think that humility is akin to weakness and submission, for me humility is and honor and a privilege. A way for me to show others they have meaning, they are important enough to be recognized and appreciated.
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 - In my faith, not the faith of religion, but in true faith that God will meet all my needs is a walk of faith. Therefore to live-out this type of faith means I can do my work as I am led to do without the stress and anxiety of working for the paycheck rather than doing the project right. Faith redirects my focus to my neighbors needs, not mine.
"You have heard that is it said, 'love your neighbor and hate your enemy. ' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you...' " Matthew 5:43-45 - Some reading this may think that my ministry work is only for brothers and sisters of faith, but according to this verse I am to love my enemies. Therefore we must understand that the word enemy here simply means our neighbors who are non-believers; while we are to pray for those who "violently attack" with the intent to cause physically harm to believers.
It is said "a picture is worth a thousand words" by loving my enemies, by meeting their handyman needs this is a picture of my faith, no words need to be spoken.
"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22 - What more can I say, serving others and meeting their needs is the joy that fills my heart.
"Give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18 - As I have stated many times - my skills, desires, passions and my life and health are all gifts from God. Serving others and meeting their handyman needs is Me giving thanks to God for I He has given me.
